Half the year de sun would shine and de odda half it rain hard

G                      C                                      G                               D

His bell ringin’ everybody singin’ Guineo, coco, pina,

Tamarindo eskimo pie, limon, and maracuya.

An’ I look back on a life that taste so sweet

Dat was life on Mango Street.

And der was nothing more exciting den cayuco race or a carnaval water fight

Kick de can, Ringoleveeo on a warm dry season night.

As I look back der was no betta place, no betta place for a kid.

Cuz where else in de entire world, could you do what we did?

An’I know dat was the only place for me
